Hi all,
Me and a friend have tickets to the National Television Awards. Tickets arrived today and the dress code is 'smart'. After looking at previous tweets from the official NTAs twitter account at users who asked about a dress code, they recommended a bow tie! I can of course understand the need for celebs to dress up in a suit, tuxedo but for those of us who have standard upper tier seating and with very very minimal chance of being seen by cameras, surely this is a bit of a stretch? Me and my friend are meeting up in London for the entire day, not just for the awards, so I was planning to go casual with a long sleeve shirt & jeans. Is there anyone here who has been to the awards before, are they usually strict on the dress code or is it merely a marketing ploy?
Appreciate any replies I receive

you can wear whatever you want, i have been pretty much every year for as long as i can remember, the tweets you are looking at are most likely from when it was held at the Royal Albert Hall when you had to dress up, since it moved to the 02 you can wear whatever you like
