Holy Cow Ice Cream Café on the North Shore has found a formula that isn’t just delicious – It’s award-winning.The shop took home the 2022 North American Ice Cream Association Flavor of the Year with its Ritzy AF salted butter cracker ice cream. “We'll make a toffee out of it that coats the crackers with butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract. Bake it in the oven. When it comes out of the oven, we'll throw some chocolate chips onto it so it melts. Spread those out. Throw that into the freezer. We'll take those out, chop up the Ritz bark, and then we add it to the ice cream base that we make, which is like a salted butter," owner Mike Schifino said.He credits Holy Cow’s national success to the hard work and creativity his team puts in at their Peabody location inside the former Chandler’s Ice Cream on Route 114.An active social media presence also helped spread the word about Holy Cow’s unique flavors during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.Right now, you can only get some pints at Holy Cows’ three locations in Gloucester, Peabody, and Salem Willows.Special release flavors sell out early. Even on a frigid January morning, there were customers waiting outside for their orders as soon as the store opened.
